De nieuwe website voor Nederland Open in Verbinding (NOiV) staat live. Tezamen met het Utrechtse bedrijf Eend heeft Burobjorn de website van NOiV op basis van Wordpress Mu ontwikkeld. Hierbij was Burobjorn verantwoordelijk voor het opzetten van Wordpress Mu inclusief de structuur, het ontwikkelen van op maat-gemaakte functionaliteiten zoals een filter systeem en het omzetten van de door Eend aangeleverde HTML en CSS (conform de Webrichtlijnen) tot Wordpress templates. Het ontwerp van de site is door Maaike de Laat ontworpen.
Een van de projecten waar ik de afgelopen tijd (inmiddels al ruim een jaar) mee bezig ben geweest is de Beeld en Geluid wiki:
De wiki beoogt kennis over de collectie van Beeld en Geluid te ontsluiten. Centraal staan films, radioprogramma’s en televisieproducties die in het kader van Beelden voor de toekomst gedigitaliseerd worden.
Op deze wiki staan biografieën van personen. Naast allerlei gegevens over de persoon is er een overzicht van het oeuvre én een beschrijving van programma’s waarin een persoon te gast was of onderwerp van gesprek. Op de wiki staan ook producties beschreven, zoveel mogelijk de makers genoemd en zijn producties ingedeeld in genre en op decennium. Aan de hand van veel verschillende onderwerpen wordt de context van film, radio en televisie beschreven.
Mijn werkzaamheden in dit project varieren van het aanpassen of ontwikkelen van de vormgeving en extensies tot het updaten en ondersteunen van het redactie team. Inmiddels zijn er meer dan 2500 (dit is uitgezonderd overleg pagina’s pagina’s, doorverwijzingen etc) aangemaakt en hebben bijna 650 mensen zich als gebruiker aangemeld. Heel netjes voor een website die pas zeer recent onder de aandacht wordt gebracht.
A few minutes ago the Radio 6 portal has been updated with some nice functionalities created by me.
Visitors of the site can now easily see in the sidebar what’s playing on Radio 6 at the moment and also see which show will be next.
If the they want to listen straight away, they can click on the title of the program airing and a stream will be started. Nice and easy. If you want to see an overview of all the shows of the week, you can use the program overview link. This gives you all the info you need to listen to a show in a daily schedule.
All of this is part of a Wordpress MU plugin (bbNebo) I created for VPRO Digitaal . This plugin allows the webmasters of Radio6 to automagically import a NEBO (xml) feed. My plugin takes care of the parsing and making the data available to the template via easy to use template functions. Thanks to Klaus Hartl / jQuery (Go open source!) we have some kickass javascript under the hood which handles the user-interaction. Marten Timan took care of the templates and the new functionality came alive.
The old design needed a make-over. It was not consistent with the Creative Commons mother organisation anymore and the technology behind could use some attention as well. The new site is completely built with the excellent open-source blogging (and nowadays ‘poor man’s’ content-management system) Wordpress and can be easily updated.
The layout was inspired by the design of the Creative Commons mother organisation and implemented using the theme Mistylooks by Sadish Bala as a starting point. Sadish theme was according to the info at themes.wordpress.net influenced by ReOrganize. If you have a look at all these three ‘versions’ you’ll will notice that they are more different than alike yet all of these share something in common. Be it a piece of code, some particular clever way to deal with cross-browser compatibility or something less tangible such as the desire to craft a nice and useful design, that’s what Creative Commons is also about: sharing.
Burobjorn installed, configured, customized Wordpress and implemented the design (the latter also had some love from Atypisch, especially in the Internet Explorer department). We hope the new site will be helpful in achieving the goals of Creative Commons Netherlands and we belief that Creative Commons Netherlands is ready for the future with this new site.
